Pregnancy week 19
This week your baby is about the size of a mango — around 15.3 cm and 240 g.
Your baby this week
Your baby's brain is developing quickly this week, with areas dedicated to the senses of smell, taste, hearing, touch, and sight becoming more defined. A creamy white coating called vernix now covers the skin, protecting it from the surrounding fluid. A fine hair called lanugo is beginning to cover the body to hold that coating in place and keep your baby warm. Movements are growing stronger and more regular.
Your body this week
You may feel mild aches along the sides of your belly as the ligaments supporting your uterus stretch, which is completely normal. You might also experience a stuffy nose or increased body secretions due to higher blood flow. Some leg cramps, especially at night, are common too.
Tips for this week
When ligament pain strikes, try changing position slowly or lying on the side opposite the ache. Gentle leg stretches before bed can help ease cramps. This is also a nice time to start choosing looser, more comfortable clothing that supports your growing belly.
