Exfoliation
Exfoliation is the gentle removal of dead skin cells, physically with a scrub or chemically with mild acids, to reveal smoother, brighter, softer skin.
Think of exfoliation as pressing refresh on your skin. Every day your face naturally sheds dead cells, but sometimes they linger and leave everything looking dull, rough or a little tired. Gently sweeping them away lets your fresh, glowing skin shine through, and helps your serums and creams absorb far better.
You have two lovely routes to choose from:
- Physical, using a soft scrub or a textured cloth
- Chemical, using mild acids like AHA or BHA that dissolve buildup
The golden rule is to stay gentle and never overdo it, because scrubbing too often can leave skin red and sensitive. Once or twice a week is plenty for most of us. Curious where this fits into your steps? Our skincare basics for beginners walks you through it.
