Pregnancy week 5

This week your baby is about the size of an apple seed — around 0.3 cm and 0 g.

Your baby this week

Your baby is now about the size of an apple seed and beginning to take on a small elongated shape. The neural tube, which will become the brain and spinal cord, is forming, and the tiny heart is starting to develop and may soon begin to beat. Early buds that will grow into organs and limbs are also appearing. A remarkable amount is happening this week despite the tiny size.

Your body this week

Early pregnancy symptoms may start to appear, such as fatigue, nausea, tender breasts, and needing to urinate more often. Your emotions may feel up and down because of rapidly changing hormones. Remember that the intensity of symptoms differs from one woman to another.

Tips for this week

If you have not started your care yet, this is a good time to schedule your first prenatal visit. Stay hydrated and try small, frequent meals if nausea sets in. Do not hesitate to contact your doctor if you experience heavy bleeding or strong pain.
